CNET Editors' review of Win Lock Pro

Windows 8 promises to bring many cool and different features to your desktop. Some developers can't wait and are previewing some of those features. BlueZap's Win Lock Pro is a free screen-locking and Windows log-in application that takes its visual cues from the Windows 8 log-in and screen lock system. It's frequently updated; the version we tested (version 8) enhances security by disabling the Alt, Tab, and Win keys when Win Lock Pro is in use.

Win Lock Pro's Welcome screen walked us through the process of creating and confirming a password. Once Win Lock was active, we could open the Windows 8-style login screen by double-clicking anywhere on the desktop or by pressing the Esc key or the space bar. A desktop gadget accesses updates, settings, and the log-in screen itself. When Windows is locked, Win Lock displays an attractive abstract view with a prominent time display. The login screen itself is in a bold primary green with buttons resembling Swiss public signs, which are models of design clarity and functionality. Of course, we could customize the background and much more from Win Lock's Settings, everything from changing our password and profile picture to unlocking an optional integrated pen drive feature.
We experienced a slight bit of bugginess when closing the Settings; nothing serious, though users can report bugs from the Settings page. The only thing newer than Win Lock Pro is Windows 8, and no one's saying it's bug-free just yet. But we welcome Win Lock Pro for giving us a glimpse of things to come. Windows 8 brings the most radical revamping of the operating system's look in many years. We like what we've seen so far. If you're curious about the new look, there's no need to go all beta on your system. Just try Win Lock Pro.

Softpedias review of Win Lock Pro

If you want to make your Windows 7 look more hip, customizing the logon screen might not cut it anymore. On the other hand, replacing the lock screen with a drop of Windows 8 may have the desired result. Not to mention that it is easier to flaunt a lock screen than a log on/off one. WinLockPro, seems to be the right answer to such a customization, as it offers a different lock screen, similar to what Windows 8 has. it is an awesome solution, as once clicked, the image switches to a password screen, asking for the correct countersign. Aside from adding a bit of Windows 8 pizzazz, WinLockPro can also be used to change the username, set a different password, modify the background image or customize the profile picture. Please be sure to download and share it with others

  1. Love the product! The only issue I have is that I use 3 monitors on my pc. When I lock it with WinLock Pro, the software only locks the main screen. The other 2 screens are still up and I can get to my computer from the 2 screens. It would be cool if when locked with WinLock Pro, all monitors would go into a lock state like Windows 7 lock feature.

  2. Please, enable Alt, Tab and Win keys when the screen(s) are not locked. The program is awesome but it makes some things difficult with Alt, Tab and Win keys disabled when the screens aren't locked. Or it would be better if you can give us an option if we would like to disable the Alt, Tab and Win keys.

  6. Shortly after I installed WinLock Pro (V10), I needed to access my "Task Manager" via Ctrl, Alt, Delete...when I hit those 3 buttons, nothing happened...Task Manager did not launch. Knowing it was working before I installed WinLock Pro, I quickly uninstalled it and Ctrl, Alt, Delete worked normally again, meaning it launched my Task Manager. Since your product is exactly what I want/need, I installed it again and the same problem immediately occurred again. I have to be able to access my Task Manager but I want to use WinLock Pro very badly...HELP!!

    Thanks!
